Campus Climate Perception of Queer and Trans* Students: Structural Equation Modeling Test of Students' On-Campus Experiences

Sun, April 7, 9:55 to 11:25am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Second Floor, Churchill

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact on perceptions of campus climate for queer and trans students* living on campus compared to those living off campus. Using Structural Equation Modeling we examined these connections through the mediators of campus resources and connections with openly out faculty/staff and students. Our findings point to the importance of creating environments in which queer and trans* faculty, staff and students feel comfortable being openly out, allowing for more connections and more positive perceptions of campus climate for this population.
