Development of Hybrid Teacher Leaders Across the Professional Life Span

Abstract

After studying the unique role of liaison-in-residence -- a full-time classroom teacher serving as a clinical supervisor for teacher candidates -- in a collaborative partnership, we identified the phenomenon of “hybrid teacher leadership” as a meaningful space where classroom teacher leaders flourish in their work and roles serving as school- and university-based teacher educators at the same time. This new study investigates the trajectory of hybrid teacher leadership once liaisons-in-residence experienced their roles as teacher leaders and continued their professional growth. With a continued phenomenological case study of these hybrid teacher leaders, we identify new positions of instructional leadership where classroom teachers become more comfortable in their leadership positions.
