Lao People's Democratic Republic Education Assimilation: A Need of Change for Ethnic Mong Minority Students

Abstract

This article examines issues and challenges of ethnic Mong minority students encounter in the Lao PDR educational system and their adjustment to live independently as a student in an urban city. It points out that the Lao PDR education needs to change for a meaningful cultural connection to Mong students and it needs to have pedagogical curricula by embracing with Mong students' heritage language and cultural values. The Lao PDR educational system needs to have an authentic multicultural education. Schools in Laos must have programs to support all minority and the Mong students.
