Principals' Perception and Practice of Social Justice Leadership in Migrant Schools: An Exploratory Study in China

Abstract

This study presented findings of a qualitative study on principals’ perception and practice of social justice leadership in migrant schools in China. This empirical study examined the following questions: (a) How do principals perceive and understand social justice in migrant schools? (b) What knowledge base do principals have to develop social justice leadership in migrant schools? (c) What strategies do principals use to enact social justice leadership in migrant schools? Through the data analysis, we found that these principals have intuitive understanding and weak knowledge base of social justice, but they have developed fragmented strategies to enact social justice in schools and local communities. The data was collected from 12 principals of migrant schools in Suzhou city of China.
