Examining Preservice Teachers Stress, Anxiety, and Mindfulness: Is There Sufficient Evidence to Justify Well-Being Interventions?

Fri, April 5, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

The challenge of stress, anxiety and depression amongst the teaching profession in England are well documented and estimated to account for the loss of approximately 220,000 teaching days per year. As a consequence, this study focusses on those about to enter the profession and explores whether similar challenges of stress, anxiety and mindfulness exist during a one-year pre-service teacher preparation programme.
Through this pilot study we have developed and tested appropriate robust data gathering tools and from initial examination of the data generated we believe there is a strong justification for further examining the employment of strategies to address pre-service teacher wellbeing in preparation for entry into the teaching profession.
