WITHDRAWN: Reimagining the Principal

Fri, April 5, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

In the paper we challenge the present discourse regarding principals, characterized by accountability, focus on students´ outcome and training programs valued for effects in terms of measurable school results. The aim is to broaden this perspective. We ask: What can we discover if we follow leaders attending a mandatory training program while working?
Theoretically the paper brings together previous research on role, professional identity, leadership and learning making it possible to understand why learning leadership is such a complex matter. It identifies a missing link in the causality chain – the leader as a human learner.
The results reminds us that leadership can never be reduced to performance and tools, but must be lived through the individual.
