Preservice Teachers as Instructional Designers: Cueing Strategies for 360° Environments

Sat, April 6, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Teachers frequently take on the role of designers and developers in creating digital learning experiences for students. This role is prominent with emerging technologies, such as mixed and virtual reality, where there are few ready-made teaching materials. In addition to traditional instructional design strategies, 360° environments have the unique challenge in that content is located in all directions around the learner. The purpose of this embedded case study was to examine how preservice teachers engaged with and reflected upon the role of cueing when designing in 360° environments. The learning activity did result in the preservice teacher’s reflective thinking as designers of their own 360° learning experiences.
