The Design and Evaluation of a Mini-MOOC for Quality Graduate Supervision in Higher Education

Abstract

Design-based research was used to evaluate an innovative learning design for graduate supervision in higher education. This research was carried out in three phases: the analysis phase, the design and construction phase and the evaluation and reflection phase. The Quality Graduate Supervision miniMOOC provided high quality faculty development to improve competency in graduate supervision. The design attracted academic faculty to engage collaboratively in relevant topics in graduate supervision in a flexible and accessible online learning environment. Findings indicate faculty were satisfied with the learning experience, and reported impacts on supervision practices. Study findings are significant for local impact, contributions to theory and practice, and can inform the work of faculty developers and instructional designers.
