This study investigated leadership development for chronically low-performing (CLP) schools in a large demographically diverse American public school district. Researchers at a university providing initial educational leadership (EDL) preparation collected and analyzed interview data from EDL grads and EDL practitioner-faculty to assess the program’s effectiveness in developing leadership dispositions identified for turning around CLP schools with significant levels of poverty. Also collected were longitudinal pre- and post-program student disposition data (N = 187) from the Haberman Star Urban Administrator Questionnaire. Areas of congruence and divergence on the 13 Haberman leadership dispositions are discussed. The researchers used the results to inform EDL curriculum revision to better serve the district partner.
