Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the benefits of prekindergarten educational programming to evaluate whether the policy should be to enroll all economically-eligible children. This study employs a quantitative, causal-comparative approach to compare those students that attended the prekindergarten educational programming and those who did not. We analyzed the results of test scores, attendance, and behavior reports to evaluate the academic and behavioral success of six cohorts of students in grades K-5. This study illustrates the importance of the analysis of local data, including attention to subgroups.
