Dis/ability in Diversity Trainings: A Need to Revisit the Binary Approach

Abstract

This paper explores the way dis/ability is packaged as a recognized dimension of diversity in the context of school based cultural competency and diversity trainings. Findings from a thematic analysis of current literature on cultural diversity trainings are presented and call attention to the absence, oversimplification, and deficit orientation of dis/ability in some of the most used models.
