Abstract

The author suggests that the divide of computer science skills and propensity to become engineers begins early, even among students who are otherwise exposed to computing. Drawing from a year-long ethnographic study of Black engineers at a predominantly white institution, the author highlights ways students’ exposure to engineering and computing education prior to college influenced their college trajectories.
