This paper will discuss doctoral case study research focused on understanding member’s perceptions about their participation in two school networks that emerged in an organic, grass roots fashion in the West Coast of Ireland. The schools are based in geographic areas with high levels of socio-economic disadvantage and deprivation and serve marginalized communities. Drawing on social network theory and social capital theory, the paper will explore the relevance of these theories to the conceptual framework for the research. It will also outline the research design and methodology, discuss key findings regarding the way in which second network supports principals with the challenges they face in the ‘post truth’ era, and outline the significance of the research.
