Creating the Innovative Canadian University: An Embedded Case Study Approach

Abstract

This research examines university innovation in the Canadian postsecondary educational context through an embedded case study approach and mixed-methodological data collection and analysis. After introducing the purpose and rationale for this work, a theoretical framework anchored in institutional theory is provided. Data collection procedures, analytical techniques, and initial quantitative results are then described. Coded thematic qualitative results are then presented in detail, which lead to discussion regarding how organizational challenges and opportunities confronted a new university striving to effectively prepare students, faculty and staff to be innovative 21st-century change agents.
