Narrative From the Classroom: A Framework for Classroom Narrative Inquiry

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

In order to address the question in the SIG call for proposals "What are the narratives that can speak back to neoliberalism?", this paper presents a conceptual piece to introduce a framework: classroom narrative inquiry. This framework combines tenets of narrative inquiry (Clandinin & Connelly, 2000) with a conceptualization of classrooms as ecologies (Doyle, 2006) and the position of teachers as practitioner inquirers (Cochran-Smith & Lytle, 2009). The framework allows both understanding classrooms in a narrative form as well as constructing classroom narratives from a multiplicity of sources (data of practice).
