Democratizing Evidence of Gains in an Urban Reading Clinic: A Collaborative Self-Study

Abstract

This self-study of two experienced teacher educators highlighted the nature and priorities of truthful evidence, as the researchers examined their growing knowledge and skill related to meaningful evaluation of student gains using quantitative and qualitative approaches. As the two scholars examined the same data set of reading clinic students over two years, their differential background knowledge and skills resulted in a dialogue about the multimodal aspects of literacy, reading fluency, miscue analysis, comprehending, quantitative analysis, and qualitative educational research.
