The Holistic Teacher: Well-Being Matters

Abstract

It is important to critically examine the different aspects of teacher wellbeing, as research has demonstrated it can affect various aspects of their job performance. One of the most influential ways to combat teacher turnover and burnout is by ensuring teachers have a positive sense of wellbeing. This qualitative study explores interviews with 87 teachers at three comprehensive public high schools in California, and sheds light on their subject experiences with wellbeing. Implications highlight and examine how open-ended, personal interviews provides self-reflexive practices that can broaden our understanding of teacher wellbeing.
