The Next Generation Science Standards (2013) call for integration of cross-disciplinary concepts and disciplinary knowledge and practices of science and engineering. Invention education, with its emphasis on solving real-world problems with technological inventions offers one way of engaging students in multi-disciplinary teams where knowledge and practices of STEM are integrated. The purpose of this paper is to examine how a group of teachers, participating in a professional development program at MIT, were being prepared to lead invention teams in their local schools. We also examine how invention was presented during the program and what effect the program had on teacher confidence and perceived capacity to lead invention teams.
