Abstract

Little is known about elementary school children’s Object Structure Perspective Taking (OSPT) specific ability. We examined OSPT age and sex differences across elementary school graders in a heterogeneous large sample (N=1,077). We have designed and validated OSPT assessment tests appropriate for this age range, items including real-world vs. abstract-geometrical objects, full detailed vs. contour-only objects, different viewpoint angles and number of response choices. Findings showed an almost linear gradual rise in elementary children’s OSPT ability, with small sex effect in third grade only, and various sex effects and sex-age interactions subscales, among the fifth and the sixth grades, but not in the fourth grade. Based on our findings, educational experiences and curriculum materials may be developed for promoting this ability.
