In its first notion the Direct and Inferential Mediation Model of Reading Comprehension (DIME) describes reading comprehension as a complex process which involves different cognitive resources. Evidence has been presented regarding general reading comprehension in English for a broad age range and partwise in the context of scientific texts. The aim of our study was twofold: Proving the generalizability of DIME for German language for general reading comprehension and furthermore taking a closer look on its applicability for science texts. Results indicate that indeed the DIME model can be generalized in our case. However especially for text comprehension of science texts it remains unclear in which way generic language skills differ from domain specific language skills.
