With teacher attrition and teacher shortages plaguing the American educational system, retaining current teachers and recruiting new ones is essential. Stress is often a factor that contributes to teachers leaving the profession. Creating a measure that administrators could use throughout the school year to identify the specific causes of stress could help retain high quality teachers by providing targeted supports around the areas of concern. The purpose of this study, was to develop and validate a teacher stress scale that is aligned to the current teaching climate. An expert panel was used to provide content validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses provide initial evidence of construct validity.
