Poster #7 - Designing Professional Learning MOOCs for Educators: Evidence From Two Online Courses

Sat, April 6, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This mixed methods study examined the experiences of participants in two massive open online courses (MOOCs) designed for educators. We found that the courses enabled diverse educators from around the world to share ideas, offer feedback, and build connections. Participation in the courses was related to changes in participants’ self-efficacy, mindsets, and attitudes, and and resulted in participants taking new actions within their school and work environments. Based on these findings, we recommend that designers of MOOCs for educators integrate opportunities for participants to connect and learn from one another and apply their learning in practice.
