Innovation in teacher compensation systems has increased in recent years. Evidence from these programs shows mixed results and are limited because they occur when incentives are available. In this correlational study, we examine one program that compensated teachers taking up roles featuring collaboration with colleagues. We ask whether teachers continued to collaborate after extra pay ended in 2017. We find that many teachers continued collaborating in their own school while some continued collaborating across schools and this varied by role type and duration of the role. This study suggests future researchers might examine programs after incentives end and designers should consider structural elements and professional development features that may improve the chances of a success of an incentive program.
