A Study of Teacher Growth, Supervision, and Evaluation in Alberta: Principal Perspectives

Abstract

Eight researchers from the three largest universities in the Canadian province of Alberta conducted a comprehensive, nine month review of the provincial Teacher Growth, Supervision, and Evaluation (TGSE) policy that was presented to the provincial Ministry of Education in March of 2018. As an identified priority under the Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Alberta initiative, the purposes of this government-funded study were
1. to inform a policy update to the existing TGSE policy,
2. to provide recommendations on how best to support implementation of any recommended changes to the TGSE policy
3. to identify related policy requirements for the growth, supervision, and evaluation of principals and
4. to identify related policy requirements for the growth, supervision, and evaluation of superintendents
