Using data collected via the Experience Sampling Method, we explored the consistency of students’ momentary engagement profiles in formal and informal STEM learning settings in two extant data sets. Results from Latent Profile Analysis indicated a six profile solution in data collected in a formal learning context, but a five profile solution in data from an informal learning context. Three consistent profiles were found between both settings including a universally low, moderately full, and full engagement profile. The remaining profiles differed across settings. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
