Over the years, accountability and quality assurance have put remarkable pressure on teachers and students. However, in Italy, despite the recognition of the importance assessment has in providing information about the higher education system, the quality assurance process has remained largely unchanged. If on the one hand, teachers continue to perceive quality assurance as an improper kind of assessment, on the other hand, students’ behavior of compliance and a strong sense of disaffection represent increasing malpractices in the Italian quality assurance system.
This paper reports on a case study aimed to analyse, in a qualitative perspective, what conceptions and perceptions teachers and students have about assessment aims and about the relationship between assessment, feedback, and quality assurance.
