There has been notable increase in scholarship on LGBTQ issues in physical education (PE) over the past decade. One way to analyse this growth is to conduct a systematic analysis of published scholarship. The purpose of this paper was to identify, categorize, and analyse published scholarship on queer issues in PE. Over 230 papers were reviewed and 70 met the criteria for inclusion. Each paper was categorized based on multiple areas including focus, theory, and method. The results identified that the majority of manuscripts published are non-empirical. Furthermore, none of the empirical studies worked with current students that identify as LGBTQ. The authors conclude by highlighting important trends and suggest avenues to progress LGBTQ research in PE.
