One of the mysteries of reform is how to scale successful practices in public schools in ways that break cycles of inequity and produce greater success for marginalized students. This is particularly true when seeking to spread sophisticated pedagogical practices like deeper learning, which enables students to learn academic content and apply knowledge in relevant ways. Some networks have managed to spread deeper learning models in districts without diluting their power and in ways that combat structural inequities. This study focuses on three such networks. In this qualitative case study, we demystify how these exemplary networks have scaled their models by delineating the systems and structures that have enabled them to instantiate their practices in unique contexts.
