Through critical lenses, this paper analyzes some key dis/connections between citizenship/education and environmental teaching, as both are affected by globalization from above and from below. The author will specifically focus upon two comparative education research studies on ecopedagogy, which is rooted in Freirean Pedagogy and various other popular education movements in Latin America. Globalization Citizenship Education (GCE) will be a central analysis citizenship framing that will be critically deconstructed, along with other spheres of citizenship (e.g., local, national, global, and planetary). This Freirean analysis will be within the notion of citizenship is not singular but plural, encompassing spheres ranging from the local to global that both coincide and conflict with one another, helping to either end or intensify socio-environmental oppressions.
