In this commentary paper the author draws from anthropology and business and highlights how the ecosystems and culture of academia can often serve as a barrier to progressive, innovative, and imaginative methodologies, research, and solutions developed by racially minoritized scholars and particularly those who study underserved communities. Author also discusses insights that can be garnered from businesses, industries, and elements of popular culture where Black creativity and thought has provided much transformation and necessary new directions.
