The current study developed a scale about university students’ social media motives. In Study 1 (N = 316), a pool of items was prepared and psychometric properties were estimated using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Study 2 (N = 200) validated the estimated factorial structure using Confirmatory Factory Analysis (CFA). The data was collected via online format. Results of four EFA analyses showed presence of two active personal motives (i.e., self-actualization and purposive motives), one passive motives (i.e., enjoyment), one active contextual motives (i.e., self-enhancement) and factor of convenience. CFA analyses confirmed the factorial structure. Concurrent validity was supported by significant differences between three types of users (i.e., productive, consumer and disinterested) in their motives (114 words).
