Multimodal Digital Artifacts as a Third Space: The Virtual Museum

Mon, April 8, 8:00 to 9:30am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

XXXX is a virtual, multimodal museum. It is multimodal not only for the presence of different codes but also for the presence of several spaces of action. In the museum there are exhibition and documentation rooms, but also “blank rooms”, where the visitor can assemble the materials located in the documentation rooms with the materials collected in his/her own informal contexts. Therefore the Museum turns into a third space since formal and informal contexts become hybrid and new artefacts are made, thus demonstrating it is a generative environment. This contribution documents how the XXXX blank rooms work as an active space producing ‘red threads/golden strings’ with the purpose of overcoming the fragmentation of existing contexts and identities.
