Abstract

Educational leadership impacts student achievement and is vital for school climate. Therefore, it is important to consider how and where educational leaders are prepared. One emerging preparation delivery strategy is online learning - a rapidly growing phenomenon in higher education generally. This study uses a large national dataset to understand the growth of online educational leadership programs since 2013 and determine what characteristics predict whether a program will offer an online educational leadership program. We find large increases in fully online programs since 2013 and numbers of schools offering educational leadership programs that were only offered in a fully online format. Adding in programs that offer choice of an online course and blended/hybrid courses makes these findings even more compelling.
