Poster #46 - Repositioning the Camera: The Language of Action and Reaction

Tue, April 9, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Youth have long since recognized the power of their iPhones in telling their stories, advocating for their rights, and targeting injustices. In doing so, they make purposeful decisions about camera perspectives, taking position behind and in front of the camera. These purposeful moves provide youth with opportunities to exercise epistemic agency, reacting to the world around them and acting to promote those issues of important to them. Through a discourse analysis of post video production reflections, this work demonstrates how young digital journalists enter into the dialogic nature of media production to fight against misrepresentation.
