Poster #30 - Simultaneous Linking: Developing an Item Response Theory Calibrated Item Pool From Numerous Chain-Linked Test Forms

Tue, April 9, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

One potential benefit of using IRT is that a calibrated item pool can be constructed and item parameters can be used directly in linking or equating applications. This study considered a case where the development of a new item pool is necessary when a new equating design is contemplated for an existing operational test in which an excessive number of test forms was sequentially linked to the base scale through a series of chains. A family of simultaneous linking approaches (Haberman, 2009; 2017) was proposed to reduce the risk of item parameter drift due to the large sequence of transformations. Their performances in developing an item pool are evaluated in terms of the parameter recovery across various ability distributions.
