With a heightened attention on school accountability across the nation, assessment practices in schools are aligned to societal agendas that tend to marginalize teacher decision-making. Computer-adaptive assessments have gained presence in schools. In one suburban district, teachers faced challenges in understanding the role of i-Ready in classrooms. Perceptions impacted how teachers utilized the diagnostic data to inform instructional decision-making. The researcher used qualitative methods during participatory action research. The purpose of the action research was to gain an understanding of teachers’ perspectives about using i-Ready. By understanding and anticipating the propensity for adoption and the challenges that often lead to the rejection of technologies, educators can collaborate to improve student outcomes.
