We investigate the mediating role of teachers’ psychological empowerment and the moderating role of team psychological safety in the relationship between empowering leadership and teachers’ innovative behavior. The study context is the professional learning community, particularly teaching and research groups (T&R groups). 507 teachers from 114 T&R groups in China participated in this study. Results from a multilevel model revealed that empowering leadership improved teachers’ innovative behavior by increasing teachers’ psychological empowerment, which was not influenced by team psychological safety.
