Organizational Building Versus Teachers' Personal and Relational Needs for School Improvement

Abstract

Organizational building is essential for school leaders to provide an infrastructure for school improvement, but can be difficult to combine with school leaders’ requirements to satisfy personal and relational needs of the teachers. The aim of the study is to contribute to the knowledge of the relationship between organizational building and personal and relational requirements in school improvement work. Data consisted of 137 interviews with 535 respondents in 28 public schools. The result highlight critical combination areas focusing organizational building versus teachers understanding and motivation of, and their adaptation to the school mission. The significance of the study lies in making the organizational building visible in combination with the requirements to meet the personal and relational needs of teachers.
