Poster #55 - Trend Study of Preservice Teachers' Social Media Use and Behaviors

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Undergraduate pre-service teachers were surveyed on their social media use, posting behaviors, and image conveyance in 2012–2013 and 2016. Students in the earlier cohort were less cautious with what they posted on social media, expressing a willingness to post about sexual orientation, religion and other personal attributes. While the 2016 cohort was more reticent to share personal information on social media, this group still showed a willingness to share personal information online. Thus, there exists a need to continue to educate students about programmatic, ethical, and professional impacts of social media postings.
