School Principal Organizational Citizenship Behavior (P_OCB): Validation of a New Construct

Tue, April 9, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

This study had two purposes: to conceptually define and psychometrically validate a ‎newly constructed Principal Organizational Citizenship Behavior (P_OCB) measure; and ‎to examine P_OCB in relation to several work attitudes and dispositional constructs for ‎teachers. A single-factor P_OCB model, representing principal extra-role behaviors, ‎emerged from two studies in northern Israel (N = 365; N = 246 teachers) and demonstrated ‎high reliability. The hypotheses on the association between P_OCB and teachers’ work ‎attitudes and dispositional variables were supported. The study results confirm that ‎P_OCB exists and is valid among Israeli school principals, and they emphasize the ‎relationships between principal OCB and selected teachers’ attitudes and dispositional ‎variables. Theoretical and practical implications will be discussed.‎
