Decolonizing or Postcolonized in Our Indigenous Experimental School: Documented and Reflection

Abstract

In 2016, Taiwan began to promote the transformation of public schools into indigenous schools. The educational goal of the Indigenous Experimental School is to build an institution based on the indigenous knowledge. The curriculum is the key to developing the indigenous school. Through quality study, the process of constructing of indigenous curriculum of four Taitung public schools were documented and analyzed. All curricula were framed under the central standard curriculum guidelines and added or replaced textbook’s contents to indigenous culture. The appeals of decolonization did not exist at this stage. There is a shackle of post-colonial era, it cannot be fully developed into an indigenous-based curriculum.
