Abstract

This empirical study of Ethiopia’s leadership preparation program narrates the experiences of school leaders as they seek to address social justice needs of their local school communities. The findings of our study reveal that Ethiopian school leaders confront challenges specific to East African contexts such as addressing complications of abject poverty and infectious diseases, satisfying external political demands, and managing school operations with minimal resources. This study adds the voices of local leaders to a broader discourse of indigenous practices of school leadership to influence the continued development of leadership preparation programs in Ethiopia.
