Abstract

This qualitative research study sought to understand resource use and information seeking behavior among community college students who sought to transfer to a four-year university. Based on focus groups with graduating seniors, this study aimed to capture how participants navigated their community college experience by seeking resources to support their pursuit of a higher education outside of pre-established student support offices. Using a Community Cultural Wealth framework, we sought to identify and understand the mechanisms through which to better support community college students given their information seeking behaviors. Findings reveal students seeking information from professors, peers in the same area of study as them and community members who attended college to help them build educational plans towards graduation and transfer.
