What can research and practice on educational leadership offer to some of the world’s most complex social justice challenges? This is the question we have begun asking ourselves at our Educational Leadership Department, and it is a question we wish to address through this presentation. Long seen as only a vehicle for training and accrediting school leaders and administrators, we argue for a reframing of Educational Leadership pedagogy as a way to contribute insights from educational research into broader leadership discussions about facilitating systemic change. This presentation offers a conceptual framework for thinking about educational leadership in and beyond schools to include community-based organizations, human services, hospitals, and non-governmental organizations towards working for social justice.
