The Relationship Between Engagement in Applied Learning Experiences and Students' Professional and Career Attitudes

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between engagement in several applied learning experiences during college and students’ fourth-year professional and career attitudes, including: obtaining recognition from one's colleagues for contributions to their field of expertise, having administrative responsibility for the work of others, working in a prestigious occupation, making a lot of money, becoming successful in a business of one's own, making a contribution to the arts and making a contribution to science. Results reveal that applied learning experiences are both positively and negatively associated with students’ professional and career attitudes, suggesting several implications for practice and directions for future research.
