Abstract

This study aims to describe how certain cultural facets characteristics of Chinese immigrant professor influence their educational thinking and practices at workplace and home. Theories on immigrant assimilation will be reviewed; then a discussion of Confucius culture of teaching and Chinese culture of parenting and the concept of cultural capital will be provided. Autobiographical method allows more insights into their experience and will be adopted as the research methodology. Autobiographical inquiry requires storyteller to reflect on the "meaningful" moments; and then, the storyteller needs to present those events and their meanings within current perspective. To sum up, this research provides in-depth understanding on Chinese immigrant professor' experience in Canada as teacher, knowledge producer and parent.
