Reclaiming Our Voices and Telling Our Stories: The Experiences of Early Career Teacher Educator Researchers

Abstract

Against the backdrop of the dominant discourses shaping teacher education and research, we chose to come together as doctoral students in the field to interrupt the ways in which we are invisibilized. This work asks: What are the experiences of early career teacher educators, and how do these individuals negotiate their identities and positionalities as such? Taking strength from nepantla as a theoretical framework, we collectively tell our stories through testimonios and use poetic analysis to present our findings. With a transformative goal, implications underscore that institutions need to value the historically and intentionally unheard voices of doctoral students as teacher educator researchers to negotiate the normative discursive spaces of teacher education, if they claim to be inclusive.
