This study inquires into purposes of STEM education in Canada. Text-based resources used to teach STEM were collected from three provinces. Critical discourse analysis was done on texts to identify values and beliefs related to purpose of STEM education. Resources frequently conveyed the importance of competency-based learning and performance. Texts communicated relatively consistent constitutions of accessibility of STEm education. Discourse on STSE, environment, and sustainability were infrequently observed. The implications of these findings in relation to purposes of STEM in Canada will be discussed.
