Abstract

With the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, teacher educators need to create a workforce of teachers who are knowledgeable and confident in its ability to teach. This challenge is further complicated for those teaching at a religious university, as these preservice teachers need to teach in all academic domains as well as religion. The purpose of this presentation, which consists of two studies, was to investigate preservice teachers’ religion teaching self-efficacy, experiences and beliefs. Participants were preservice teachers in a required education course at a religious university. Participants were required to complete a practicum and a teacher religion self-efficacy scale. Results showed that preservice teachers reported that they did not have religion teaching experiences within the practicum.
