What Goes Beyond Language? Exploring Integration in Dual-Language Programs

Abstract

This study examines to what extent parents of students in Korean-English dual language programs (KDLI) in Southern California evaluates integration among students and among parents themselves. It investigates to what degree the topics of integration are associated with other parent-related variables. This study collected survey from 454 parents of students in seven KDLI programs in seven elementary schools where the majorities of respondents are immigrants themselves or are from immigrant families. This proposed study uses logistic regression analysis to analyze the survey data. Preliminary analysis results show that the school environment variable is strongly and positively linked with the level of integration reported by parents and that integration among parents is another significant factor associated with positive integration among students.
